Part one              

Topic 1. Do you often read newspaper?

Sample answer

Well,I find myself reading the paper quit often, well more frequent then my peers.

Brainstorming:

No -->as mobile phone is becoming one of the indispensable products-->I prefer to read news on my phone instead of newspaper

Topic 2. What do you usually use the computer for?

Brainstorming:  

Search information or play online games--> as computer is becoming one of the indispensable products, it can offer me various kinds of recreation

Topic 3. Do you like to walk on your own or with others?

Brainstorming: 

Walk with others-->we can have a casual chat during walking-->accompanying each other is a good way to keep the habit of walking

Topic 4. Do you prefer to study in the morning or in the evening?

Brainstorming: 

In the evening--> prefer silence--> during the evening, I can totally indulge into study--> the efficiency will be increased  

Topic 5. How often do you buy others gifts?

Brainstorming: 

Often buy my friends gifts on their birthday-->it’s a habit since we have become good friends--> choosing a proper gift is not an easy task

Topic 6. Do you want to be a singer?

Brainstorming: 

Yes, especially when I was a child--> I used to think that singer is a kind of enviable professionals--> but later I totally forgot this dream because of heavy burden of studies

Topic 7. How often do you take buses?

Brainstorming: 

Almost every day --> bus is less convenient compared with private cars --> but it is good for protecting the environment --> help reduce the CO2 emission 

Topic 8. Why do many people like swimming?

Brainstorming:

A kind of sports that both help build up body and have a lot of fun --> children like swimming especially in the summer because it’s cool --> adults like swimming because it’s beneficial for health

Topic 9. Do you mind noises?

Brainstorming:

Yes --> noises disturb me especially when I try to focus on something --> make me feel restless --> usually choose to listen to the music when noises come

Topic 10. How do you feel about advertisements?

Brainstorming:

Some advertisements are attractive and creative-->Apple’s advertisements can always catch people’s eyes using imaginative ideas-->this kind of advertisements is more like a short movie

Part two

Topic 1

Describe an important building in your hometown.

You should say:

where this building is   

what it looks like

what it is used for            

and explain why it is important.

Brainstorming:

The municipal government building in the city center-->modern style-->look like a giant mirror--> designed by a famous designer-->used for government affairs-->attract lots of tourists to visit--> citizens are proud of this building because it represents the influence and power of our municipal government 

Topic 2

Describe your favorite season or time of the year.

You should say:

when this time is

what the weather is like at this time

what you usually do at this time

and explain why it is your favorite time of the year.

Sample answer

I like all of them in a way, but if I must choose, then I think my favorite must be autumn.  Autumn is usually between around September and November each year, though it can shift a little if we have a long hot summer.

Factually, autumn is the time of year when the days start to get shorter again, the temperature cools and plants and trees start to shut down and prepare for winter. You might think this would be depressing, but I don’t think so. For me, autumn is something of a relief. I get terrible hay fever in the summer from pollen, and I’m not great in the heat, so I find the temperature much more comfortable in autumn and I can be a lot more active and do more things.  The best thing about autumn is the way that the trees change color. I’m lucky, because I live near woodlands. As autumn begins the leaves on trees transform from green to rich oranges; vivid yellows; warm browns and blinding gold. If you have never seen a forest in autumn, it’s quite hard to imagine, but really and truly, at this time of year, if the autumn sun catches leaves as they blow off in the wind they can look like flames or pure gold.  It is astonishingly beautiful.

I also like to be outside, in summer, everyone else has the same idea, but in the autumn there are still some mild days to be enjoyed and I like to wrap up warm and head off for long walks in the blustering wind and have the countryside all to myself.  I like to look out for wildlife and interesting plants on my treks.  Sometimes I’ll go walking or running with a friend and it feels like the whole place up on the hills belongs just to us.

So for me, autumn is special because of its beautiful colors; the lack of pollen to give me hay fever, the possibility of long country walks and being able to enjoy our wonderful British countryside all to myself!

Eventually autumn ends, and it becomes very dark and cold as we move into winter.  I’m not so keen on that as there is very little daylight and it seems to go on forever.  On the other hand we have some great winter festivals: Halloween; Bonfire night and of course Christmas, so every season has its good points in my view!

Brainstorming: 

Summer is my favorite season--> during this time, the temperature is high-->but everything will rouse up from sleeping-->usually go swimming with friends-->sometimes we even make a journey to the beach--> I feel really energetic in this season  

Topic 3

Describe a friend you had when you were a child

You should say:

how you first met   

how long you were friends

what you used to do together 

and explain why you liked this person.

Brainstorming:

We met in the primary school-->we were classmates at that time--> we have become friends for over 15 years-->we used to walk home from school together-->we shared almost everything with each other--> we have similar personalities--> there are lots of precious memories between us--> even though we had quarreled, it never became a barrier

Topic 4

Describe an indoor game that you liked to play when you were a child. 

You should say: 

What the game was  

When, where and with whom you usually played it 

How you played it         

and explain why you still remember this game or you liked this game.

Brainstorming:

Truth or dare-->on a classmate reunion party last year-->play with my classmates--> the rule is you have to choose to tell a truth about yourself or dare to do something asked by others--> thirteen people sat in a circle taking turns to play-->we really had a great time that night-->after graduation, we seldom had chances to meet-->by playing this game, we seemed to become students again

Topic 5

Describe an activity you do to keep fit. 

You should say: 

What the activity is 

When, where you usually do it 

How you do it 

and explain why it can keep you fit. 

Brainstorming:

Cycling-->I started this activity one year ago-->usually go cycling in the park near my home-->also ride to work sometimes-->enjoy listening to some light music when cycling-->a great way to keep fit as it burns calories-->also enable me breath fresh air outside

Topic 6

Describe a book you recently read that you would like to read again.

You should say:

what the book was about

why you read it 

what you learned from this book

and explain why you would like to read it again.

Brainstorming：

A book about animals-->it is a compulsory book required by my teacher-->I read it in the summer holiday--> I have learnt lots of knowledge about animals such as habitats and dietary habits--> help broaden my horizon--> actually it is really interesting because there are too many fresh ideas in this book that changes my view of the world

Topic 7

Describe a big company you are interested in. 

You should say: 

What is the company called 

How did you know this company 

What kind of business this company does 

What kinds of interesting activities does the company have. 

Brainstorming：

The big company is Apple-->a multinational corporation that designs electronics, computer software and personal computers-->know this company by watching advertisements on TV--> are so attractive and creative-->their best-sellers are iPhone and iPad-->change young people’s lifestyle in some way-->last month Apple held a global activity called “Apple Renew” -->focused on the recycling of components of products-->customers can get a discount buying new products if they send their used machines to the Apple store

Topic 8

Describe a shop you like to go to.

You should say:

what shop it is

what it sells (or, what you usually buy there)

when you first started going to this shop 

and explain why you like (to go to) this shop.

Brainstorming：

A clothing shop in a shopping mall-->sell fashionable clothes--> this shop was introduced by my friend--> the owner of this shop is very kind to us--> both the price and quality are so appealing--> the owner will give us special discount and inform us every time there are new clothes

Topic 9

Describe a character or personality of yours. 

You should say: 

What it is 

How it affects your life 

Where you get it from 

and how you feel about it 

Brainstorming：

My ability to stay calm even in the time of distress-->find it as a helpful character-->useful when unexpected things happened-->enable me to make right decisions-->I get this personality from being educated by my father, who is very serious in making decisions-->this quality has saved me from making many mistakes-->feel so grateful to avoid making many mistakes-->also useful in both my personal and professional life

Topic 10

Describe someone you know who is good at cooking.

You should say:

who this person is

how you know him or her  

what kinds of food they cook 

and explain why you think this person is so good at cooking. 

Brainstorming:

My mother--> we have lived together for over twenty years-->her specialty dishes are braised fish and lotus root and rib soup-->she is good at cooking because she learned it from my grandmother--> my grandmother is an excellent cooker who has many experiences working in restaurants
